Dinton Walking Group

What does the Group do?

We organise   about 80  leisurely paced  4 to 6 mile walks on weekdays  and weekends throughout the year  usually within 10/15 miles  radius of  the centre of Wokingham . We   also arrange a number of London walks  and some further afield. We have an  active programme of monthly meetings  with relevant and entertaining speakers, social events, BBQ, American suppers, Christmas  lunch, Charity fundraising quizzes and  organize an annual  UK  summer walking holiday.

Object

The Group was formed to increase opportunities  for  all like minded adults to gain safe access to the countryside and promote friendship  amongst members by providing a regular  programme of walks and related  activities. No one will ever know the pleasure that walking and talking within a  group can bring until it has been experienced.

History

The Group was formed in September  1999  under the auspices of Wokingham District Countryside Services by amalgamating the Womens Walking Group and the Over 50’s mixed walking Group. After two years the  Group  formed its own  management  committee and all walks  are  member devised and led.

Where and when  are meetings held?

Originally formed at Dinton Pastures  the Group is now  based  at Barkham Village Hall  and meets at 7.45pm  on the second Tuesday of each month

Membership

Currently  160  members  with an  average of  23 or so  on each walk. The Group offers  a very warm welcome to anyone who  would like to join us for fresh air, exercise and  companionship. However some  prefer to walk quietly and safely  within a group whilst enjoying  the natural world. Annual membership from 1 September 2009  is  £6 (six pounds).
