Barkham Youth Shelter
A Statement from Barkham Parish Council
Read by Cllr Pam Stubbs at BPC Meeting on 9 Feb 2010
Residents will know that the Youth Shelter, a topic of much discussion during 2009, has now been erected in the Junipers open space. The Council hopes that it will be of great benefit to the community. Many will also be aware of the statement placed on the Barkham web site in November which stated, inter alia, that ‘It would not now be appropriate to erect the youth shelter’. This statement was put on the web site with the authority of the Chairman of Barkham Parish Council. It was also circulated to those who attended the public meeting on 16th September. Self-evidently the Council subsequently decided not to adopt this statement. The Council apologises that people were misled by this chain of events, and it is now urgently putting in place procedures to improve its communication with all residents.

The Parish Council holds a full council meeting on the second Tuesday of each month (except August) at Barkham Village Hall at 8.00 p.m. Planning applications are also dealt with at a planning committee meeting starting at 7.30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
Agendas for the next full council meeting can be found on the Parish council notice boards one week before the meeting.

THE PUBLICATION SCHEME
The Information Commissioner's Office has now developed and approved a new model publication scheme which can be adopted by town/parish and community councils. Barkham Parish Council has adopted the new model scheme which will be operational from 1 January 2009. For the avoidance of doubt the new Model Scheme is generic in nature (i.e. it is for all public authorities irrespective of them being a local authority) and is not sector specific.
The model scheme is also available on the Information Commissioners website at www.ico.gov.uk - the easiest way of locating it is to click on Publication Schemes under the A-Z listing.
