BVRA would like to make you aware that there have been several car thefts in the last few weeks from Barkham and the surrounding area. Thieves are targeting cars that have keyless entry (cars that unlock when the key is a short distance from the car).Â
Â
They do this by using equipment to read the signal coming from your car key stored inside the house, enabling them to unlock and drive the car away.
Â
There are several precautions you can take including:
- Storing keys in a Faraday pouch or box to prevent the key signal being transmitted. A Faraday device is a metal box or pouch that has been tested to ensure radio waves are not transmitted. If you use your own metal box please ensure you test it. Put the key in the box, approach the car and ensure it remains lockedÂ
- Using an old fashioned physical security device such as a crook lock for your steering wheel
- Installing protection such as bollards for your driveway.
