Development Watch Alert Tree Preservation Order Update For The Coombes.
In view of the continuing threat of development within the Coombes, Wokingham Borough Council has revisited the Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) protecting the area. The new TPO replaces two from 1978 and 1988, TPO 138/1978 and TPO 371/1988, and adds woodland along the access lanes from Bearwood Road, School Road and Mole Road. The extent of the new TPO is shown on the attached map.
The new TPO, which is attached, will protect all natural regeneration of tree species but will not preclude removal of Rhododendron ponticum, which could not be considered a tree species.
Serving this TPO will ensure that the trees are adequately considered and incorporated into any future planning proposals or changes of land use. This TPO can also be used to ensure that only appropriate work is undertaken to protected trees for the duration of the TPO, so that the trees can only be removed following written consent of the Borough Council. In this way significant trees can be protected and retained to make a positive long-term contribution to tree cover in the area.
The Order took effect, on a provisional basis, on 8th February 2019. It will continue in force on this basis for a further 6 months or until the Order is confirmed by the Council, whichever occurs first.
Please contact the Tree and Landscape Team on 0118 974 6000 if you have any queries or wish to discuss this order further.
