Development Watch Alert 10/12/2018 The Coombes - a further update
In our previous alert on the threat to The Coombes following recent sales of plots advertised as having development potential, we let you know that Jason Varley from Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) had served a stop notice on one of the sites in the Coombes. Following that an application (183270) was received by WBC for "prior notification of agricultural or forestry development -3 proposed buildings one cabin, one shed and one woodstore" which can be viewed on the WBC website at https://bit.ly/2EaTeDm (shortend link).
This does not mention a “yoga and wellness” facility although that possible use is well documented elsewhere including in a BBC South Today report. Although there is no size restrictions for forestry development it must be necessary for the purposes of forestry which a judgement call for Officers to make
The WBC councillors for Barkham (John Kaiser) and Arborfield (Gary Cowan) are totally against any development in the Coombes and have made that point very strongly to the Borough Council. The BVRA have also made their case to WBC. The Council has relented and will allow residents to comment and they suggested comment should only go to Jason Varley but in our opinion this is such a serious matter we are asking residents to circulate this email as far as possible.
They do say though that as this is a permitted development application they will probably take no notice of comments and judge the application on its merits. A sad state of affairs but correct within the legislation. However we see this as the "thin end of the wedge" and expect other Coombes plot owners will be watching to see what WBC allows before they put in applications to develop their land.
