Petition – Build houses to benefit local communities, not developer profits
The WBC Leader, John Halsall has launched a petition to Robert Jenrick (Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government) and the Conservative government:
“BUILD HOUSES TO BENEFIT LOCAL COMMUNITIES NOT DEVELOPER PROFITS”.
It is hoped that it will eventually get enough numbers with help from other Boroughs throughout the South East, so this can be debated in Parliament. This is all part of the White Paper for 'Planning for the Future' to radically change how many houses local authorities across England are expected to build.
Wokingham Borough has been given a provisional target of 1635 houses per annum, which is more than double what we have built in each of the last 3 years. This number is unsustainable and will have a serious impact on all of us in terms of traffic congestion and over development. Wokingham has also been allocated the highest number out of any towns in the Thames Valley.
We encourage residents to review and support this petition.

Barkham Manor Farm fence
In May of this year, several residents told us of their concerns that Barkham Manor Farm has erected a new mesh fence which has made the right of way along its border much narrower and was without planning permission.
The WBC Enforcement team have been in touch with the farm owner. The unauthorised fence adjacent to the north boundary of Barkham Manor Farm was over 1m in height (being 1.2m) and therefore not permitted development. WBC have inspected and found that the wire has been removed from the metal poles so there is now no fence. Some metal poles remain but is not development under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and therefore not a breach of planning control. WBC have now closed the investigation but please let us know if you see any further fence activity.
Kind Regards BVRA
